OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois is now home to the first state designated Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center in downstate Illinois. The Level 1 distinction is the highest ranking of its kind that a hospital can attain and recognizes centers that provide optimal care for the trauma patient. It is staffed by board-certified pediatric surgeons and specially trained nurses who provide lifesaving care.  Annually, there are more than 800 admissions to trauma services. Approximately 200 of these are admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

The Emergency Department is staffed by board-certified emergency medicine physicians 24 hours a day, who are experienced in the treatment of children. We have two trauma rooms to care for children within the Emergency Department., and a surgical suite is located on the third floor, only seconds from the Emergency Department. This surgical suite is staffed and immediately available to care for trauma patients.  Burns are managed by Transfer Agreement to a Burn Center if the patients requires this specialized care.

Transport to Children's Hospital of Illinois is accommodated by ground and/or air. LIFE FLIGHT is available for aeromedical transportation, responding within five minutes. Emergency transfers can be made by calling 1 (800) 252-5433.
