Cancer and Blood Disorders

Inside OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois, you’ll find the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, located within the Jim & Trudy Maloof St. Jude Affiliate Clinic, the nation’s first such St. Jude-affiliated clinic. The clinic has been serving children, teens and young adults in Illinois and neighboring states with cancer and blood-related disorders for over 40 years.
In addition to being affiliated with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, we are also a member of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), the world’s largest organization devoted exclusively to childhood and adolescent cancer research. Because of these two affiliations, we are able to offer our patients access to the most up-to-date clinical treatment protocols, right here in Peoria.
Through collaboration with the team at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis and the pediatric experts in COG, our physicians (full-time faculty at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria) and our staff make it possible for children battling cancer and other serious diseases to receive exceptional treatment, as close to home as possible.
The Heller Center for Kids with Cancer
The Heller Center for Kids with Cancer was established in 2016 to provide patients and families with the critical, non-medical tools to best support them through and beyond the cancer journey.
Comprehensive Pediatric Care
We’ve helped thousands of kids with cancer and blood-related disorders, including diagnosis and treatment for blood disorders and cancer.
We offer the largest and most comprehensive pediatric hematology/oncology team in Illinois outside of Chicago, with eight physician specialists, three Advanced Practice Registered Nurses and 12 nationally Certified Pediatric Oncology Nurses. In addition, our child-centered staff includes a Certified Child Life Specialist, Social Worker, Patient Care Services Coordinator, Embedded Counselor, two Research Nurses, two Medical Office Assistants and three clerical staff.
We also collaborate closely and coordinate consultations with other local subspecialists who may be needed to give the best care for our patients – such as pediatric surgery, pediatric radiology, radiation oncology, pediatric intensive care, pediatric nephrology and many more at OSF Children’s Hospital.
Additional services such as our patient and family education programming, return-to-school assistance and education, psychosocial support (individual and in support groups) and a summer camp, aid patients and their families in their journey as they cope with complex or chronic illness.
