Sports Medicine in our Community

OSF St. Joseph is proud to be the official health care provider of athletics for Illinois State University and Illinois Wesleyan University. OSF HealthCare provides athletic training services to all Illinois Wesleyan University Titan and Illinois State University Redbird student-athletes. OSF also provides athletes with access to athletic trainers, sports medicine providers, orthopedic surgeons and behavioral health professionals.

OSF orthopedic surgeon Robert Seidl, MD – who also serves as medical director of our partnership with Illinois State University and Illinois Wesleyan University – works closely with Karan Rai, MD, a sports medicine physician with OSF HealthCare.

Our Orthopedic Services

  • Sports medicine: Our team will work together with athletes of all ages and abilities to help you heal and recover as quickly as possible. We specialize in ankle and knee injuries, concussions and dislocations.
  • Total hip replacements are intended for patients who suffer from degenerative hip joint disease, which may include osteoarthritis, post-traumatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, avascular necrosis and hip dysplasia.
  • Total and partial knee replacements: Partial replacements treat adults living with degenerative joint disease in one or two parts of the knee joint and a total replacement is intended for treatment for adults living with mid- to late-stage degenerative joint disease of the knee.

  • Hand and wrist surgery: The hand and wrist are composed of 27 bones connected by numerous joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments. The hand and wrist have many parts and are susceptible to many types of injuries. While surgery is a last result, we can help with a variety of conditions from arthritis, broken bones and carpal tunnel syndrome to nerve and tendon injuries.
  • Onsite physical and occupational therapy evaluate and treat all orthopedic conditions, from stable acute injuries to sub-acute and chronic conditions.
  • Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure. The joints most often examined using arthroscopy include knee, shoulder, elbow, ankle and wrist joints. It is used in treating a variety of conditions.
  • Podiatry: Our podiatry specialists focus on keeping your feet and ankles healthy, so you can stay active and pain-free. From treating common conditions like bunions, plantar fasciitis, and ingrown toenails to managing complex foot injuries or diabetic foot care, we offer comprehensive solutions tailored to your needs.
  • Shockwave therapy is an innovative, non-invasive treatment designed to accelerate healing and reduce pain for musculoskeletal conditions. Using targeted sound waves, this therapy stimulates blood flow and tissue repair, making it effective for chronic issues like plantar fasciitis, tendonitis and sports injuries.
