Emergency Department

The Emergency Department at OSF Saint Paul Medical Center is staffed around the clock by board certified emergency medicine physicians. Emergency Services Entrance
Nurses and physicians are trained in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Neonatal Care and trauma care for all ages.

We also participate in the OSF Stroke Network which provides early detection and treatment for stroke symptoms.

When should I use the emergency department?

If you are currently experiencing a medical emergency or a life-threatening situation, please call 9-1-1 immediately. 

Our emergency department works in close partnership with all area ambulance services to ensure you receive high quality care during your transport, and timely care upon your arrival to our facility.

Your visit to OSF Saint Paul Medical Center Emergency Department will include:

  • Triage - a brief exam to determine priority of care
  • Registration - Consent for treatment and confirm personal information
  • Exam - Nursing and physician physical exam
  • Diagnostics - Lab, X-Ray, CT, Ultrasound, MRI and/or EKG
  • Treatment - individualized on patient needs
  • Discharge - Treat and Release, Hospital Admission, or Transfer to a higher level of care

Patients discharged from OSF Saint Paul will receive individualized instructions to support the healing process.
